syncing NetNewsWire with Google Reader

NetNewsWire is mac application for reading RSS.  Google reader is the same but online version.

To sync both applications together you have to do this:

google reader:

1. Manage Subscriptions (bottom left corner)
2. Import/Export tab
3. “Export your subscriptions as an OPML file”  -> save OPML file (this is XML file with OPML structure)

NetNewsWire:

Either import into netnewswire application or if you have account in newsgator import it there

1. Import in NetNewsWire
   1. File -> Import Subscriptions -> import OPML file you have downloaded from Google Reader
   2. Properties -> Syncing tab -> Starting over tab -> replace subscription on newsgator
2. Import into newsgator
   1. Add Feeds tab -> URL & Import tab -> Import OPML tab -> import Google reader file
   2. sync with NetNewsWire

Why I am using both ?

Google reader is easy to connect from any computer, even there is application for iPhone called GRiS

jak me nasr*li ze Seagate

Koupil jsem si pekny pul terabytovy malicky prenosny hardisk od Seagate. Uplne nadhera!  FreeAgent for Mac

Jenze se mi trosku prehrival a mel jsem s nim nejake problemy (mozna jen ocekavam ze se ty problemy ozvou v budoucnu) a tak jsem se rozhodl vyuzit moznosti a vratit ho jak to umoznuje zakon.

Staly se 2 veci:

1. Vraceni zbozi do 14 dni je definovana v obcanskem zakoniku a tudiz pokud si zbozi koupite na firmu (ICO) tak spadate pod obchodni zakonik a na vas se 14 denni moznost vraceni zbozi nevztahuje. (Musim dodat ze je to podmineno pri koupi zbozi pres e-shop)
2. Seagate se vyjadril na mou zadost na vraceni zbozi, ze doslo k poskozeni obalu (ani nevidel jak jsem ho otevrel) a tudiz ho nemuze prevzit. Vubec bych nenamital kdyby rekl ze jsem zbozi pouzival 10 dni a doslo k urcitemu opotrebeni – jasne chapu.

Hardisk byl zabalen ve 2 plastovych krabicich, kdy jedna byla vodo/vzducho tesne zabalena. Jemne jsem ji musel rozrezat abych byl schopen zbozi vytahnout a pouzit.

Jestli nekdo uda duvod k neprevzeti zbozi, ze doslo k poruseni obalu (jak jsem psal, zbozi bych chapal, ale obal), tak to me opravdu vyytaci do nepricetnosti.

At si ten svuj plast strci nekam.
Seagate respektive jeho distributori v CR vlezte mi nekam !!

Shrinking vmware instances

Let’s say you have several vmware instances you don’t use currently but have to keep it for future. What about shrinking  their size, so they don’t take so much size on preciouse laptop HD ?

This snippet is taken from 41 technologies

1. First backup your guest os disk image and other files (just in case something goes wrong) + make sure you have plenty of spare disk space on your harddrive.
2. Start Windows guest OS in VMWare Fusion and login as administrator
3. Clean up & defrag guest OS disk image from within guest OS
   * Delete all unused files, empty your trash can, delete your browser cache etc.
   * Defragment your guest OS (f.x. using “defrag c:” in the cmd prompt).
4. Zero out unused disk space in guest OS disk image
   * Download Mark Russinovich’s disk erase tool SDelete v1.51+ and place it on the local guest drive (*1).
   * From a command prompt navigate to where you saved the above delete tool and write “sdelete -c c:”, which will clear all free disk space
5. Close guest OS and VMWare
   * Shutdown your Windows guest OS.
   * Quit VMWare fusion
6. Shrink disk image using VMWare’s diskTool
   * Navigate to the VMWare Fusion tools directory. E.g. type “cd /Applications/VMware Fusion.app/Contents/MacOS”
   * Run VMWare Fusion’s diskTool command with the shrink option “-k” to compact your virtual drive (*.vmdk). E.g. type “./diskTool -k 0 full-path-to-your-virtual-desk-image.vmdk”. (*2)
7. Finished!
