installing new firmware on wrt54gl

To install new firmware on wrt54gl use this steps:

# cd /tmp
# wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/kamikaze/7.09/brcm-2.4/openwrt-brcm-2.4-squashfs.trx
# mtd -r -e linux write openwrt-brcm-2.4-squashfs.trx linux

1. Turn bootwait on
nvram show | grep boot
nvram set boot_wait=on
nvram commit

2. Use TFTP to install new firmware
atftp –trace –option “timeout 1″ –option “mode octet” –put –local-file openwrt-wrt54g-2.4-squashfs.bin 192.168.1.1

3. telnet wrtbox and change password
telnet 192.168.1.1
passwd

4. install openvpn
ipkg update
ipkg install openvpn

5. create dir on wrt box
cd /etc
mkdir openvpn

6. follow on your (win/lin) machine openvpn howto

7. copy created files on wrt box

8. set correct timezone

9. repair time on wrt
crontab -e

remove ^M in vi

If you need to remove ^M (windows ending line character) in vi you have to open specific document in vi and type :

:%s/^M//g

(To get the ^M hold the control key, press V then M (Both while holding the control key) and the ^M will appear.)

This command will find all occurances and replace them with nothing. Here,the :%s is a basic search and replace command in vi. It tells vi to replace the regular expression between the first and second slashes (^M) with the text between the second and third slashes (nothing in this case). The g at the end directs vi to search and replace globally (all occurrences).

iPhone 3G and release date

In the begining I have to say that I am really good   Look at my older arcticle on 28 April I was predicting annoucing date for new iPhone on 9th june. Woala  here we are.  I guess I was the first one in Czech with that correct date on the internet.

OK let’s see what is new:

• 3g – it is bad that we can’t run 3g in czech
• gps – good to have it
• sdk – you can create your new applications
• and ton’s of others new features

Price for 8G is $199 and for 16G is $299. Which means more then half of previous  price of older iPhone.
