02 a vypoved ADSL

Rozhodl jsem se ze dam vypoved a prejdu s internetem k jinemu providerovi.

Duvod je legracni – jednou jsem musel diskutovat s jejich centrem “pece o zakazniky” a tak me vytocili, ze jsem se rozhodl ze jiz jim zadne penize posilat nebudu.

To me dovedlo k tomu ze jsem patral po konkurenci a zjistil ze muzu mit ADSL u sveho mobilniho operatora za polovinu ceny, takze duvod k prejiti.

Dnes jsem volal – napisu jen velmi strucne – byly to 2 hovory (pry se jim zhroutil system, proto mi volala pak zpatky [verim ze overovala u jakeho operatora mam svuj mobil, jakou maji nabidku, a zda moje tvrzeni ceny konkurence je pravdiva]). Hovory trvaly asi neco pres pul hodiny. Slecna se zeptala za kolik mi to nabizi konkurence, ja na to ze 300 (bude to o neco vic, ale kdyz me nasr@li a chteji si me udrzet, tak at daji poradnou slevu). Pak jak volala zpatky (to jiz mela funkcni system) tak zacala s nabidkama:

• 500 kc
  • ja: to je stale drahe, konkurence je levnejsi
  • ona: pak tu mam dalsi nabidku, jen pro vas, protoze jste nas dobry zakaznik
• 400kc
  • ja: cena je stale drazsi. je tam nejaky zavazek ?
  • ona: ano 1 rok
  • ja: konkurence to ma bez zavazku a kdyz budu nucen se prestehovat tak je to pro me vyhodnejsi
  • ona: to neni problem, kdyz se prestehujete, tak vam preneseme i internet, pokud tam nebude linka, tak vam ji zridime, a pokud to nepujde, tak zavazek jednoduse zrusime
  • ja: tak proc tam vubec mate ten zavazek, kdyz rikate ze ho nijak nebudete vyzadovat
  • ona: to ja nevim, tak to mame nastavene
  • ja: stale je to drahe
  • ona: muzu jit pod 400 ale snizime rychlost
  • ja: konkurence to ma za 300, bez zavazku, bez snizovani rychlosti,…

 

Tak jsem ji zdelil, ze jsem rozhodnut prejit. Pak nastalo 20min vetsinovy monolog, jak je to pro me nevyhodne, ze nabizi skoro stejnou cenu a zavazku se nemusim bat. Ze nyni mi pobezi vypovedni lhuta az do brezna a budu muset platit celou dobu vyssi cenu, takhle by mi to ihned zmenila v systemu a mohl bych mit levnejsi internet….

No snazila se holka, to musim uznat. Uz mi zacali dochazet duvody

Co z toho vyplyva ? Pokud platis za internet vice jak 400 – 500kc tak neni problem tu cenu si snizit. Pozor na jednu vec, sleva by byla jen na 1 rok a pak by asi naskocila puvodni cena (to si clovek dokaze ohlidat – ale proc ?  kdyz konkurence nabizi je v tomhle uprimnejsi a neschovava to za nejakymi slevami jen pro “vyvolene”)

muCommander and external editor

If you want to use other editors/viewers with muCommander you have to do

• find “preferences.xml” file (in Mac it  ”~/Library/Preferences/muCommander”) or check this page
• Add this section:

  <editor>
     <use_custom>true</use_custom>
     <custom_command>open -a Sublime\ Text\ 2 $f</custom_command>
 </editor>

• as you can see I am using “Sublime  Text 2” text editor
• don’t use  quotation’s marks as it didn’t work
• more can be found on this forum

 To note:

• don’t use quotation marks – as mentioned above
• use external editor to edit “preferences.xml” file
• make sure mucommander is closed otherwise it likes to  overwrite your changes
• it it doesn’t work check whether you got your changes in that file (could be overwritten by muCommander)

Do you want TRIM on mac ?

Apple has started to support TRIM on OSX Lion. What was my surprise  when I have find out that it works only on SSDs provided by Apple. Not sure why, but it seems it is apple’s way.

Anyway check TRIM Enabler – according description it should work even on snow leopard. I have tested it on Lion and it works.

Today we had discussion about giving and helping charities and other non profiting organizations.

Thomas Stanley has written several bestselling books about average millionaires (Millionaire next door, Stop acting rich or other books). Stanley is profesor on university and did research on many millionaires in USA. Stanley represents statistical results in very easy way to understand. (find time to read at least 1 these books). Anyway let’s get back to our topic.

Everyone knows that if you take money from your pocket and give – you have less. So many people thinks that giving and wealth are substitutes. The truth is just oposite.

“Giving to charitable causes and wealth are complements, not substitutes, as logic might seem to dictate. Two groups of high-income producers were studied. Both groups were statistically identical in terms of income and age. The first group contained those who gave at least 10 percent of their annual realized income to charitable causes each year. The second group gave 1 percent or less. In terms of average dollar amounts [of net worth generated], the first group significantly outpaced the second [by about 20 to 1].” from freemoneyfinances or on googleBooks(page 231 & 232)

Interesting reading above, right ? The one who gives more will end up with more. Exactly oposite what our brain tells us.

So I had few questions:

• guys like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet and others give away incredible amount of money. Is this somehow related to their wealth and should we wait until we are millionaires to start giving ?
• I believe that money has very nice attribute/character – money just multiply who/what we are. (If you you are greedy when you have few dollars, you will be much more greedier when you will have million dollars. And the oposite is true as well. If you know how to give money when you have little – there is high probability that you will give away as well and be even more generous when you get more. If you on drugs when you have 10$ then you will be on heroin when you will have 1M$. Money just multiply who we are and what we do. (I have experienced that and many has confirmed it as well:)
• I agree with Stanley results – there is statistically higher probability that you will have more if you are generous
• What “power” is behind that and how come that it works when it make “rational” non sense ?
• rational way – there is no explanation for this – at least I can’t explain it
• “other” or spiritual way – religions have really clear view on this
• In Bible (old testament) we can see that this is “command” to tithe (give 10% of what you have)
• In new testament there isn’t any similar “command”, but rather appeal for voluntary giving – as there is not mentioned any specific number for giving and it is rather based on generosity (some give less than 10% and some give more than 10%)
• Bible talks about money very often and on many specific topics (debt, giving, business owners, budgeting, lending, investing,….)
• Don’t know other religions in very details, but you can find in almost all religions verses like “helping others”, “taking care of your family”, “be responsible and accountable for things you have”, “prefer others”
• What rich people say about that God is responsible for their worth ? Here is extract from Robert Kiyosaki book Increase your financial IQ (Kiyosaki is well known for his bestselling books series “Rich dad, poor dad” and his game “cashflow & rat race”)

As far as tithing goes, we continue to donate a large percentage to charitable organizations. It’s important to give. As my very religious friend says, “God does not need to receive, but humans need to give.” Also, the reason we give is because tithing is our way of paying our partner — God. God is the best business partner that I’ve ever had. He asks for 10 percent and lets me keep the other 90 percent. You know what happens if you stop paying your partners? They stop working with you. That is why we tithe.

• My personal, but very important thought
• God is not cash machine. It is not important “how much” you give, but rather your personal attitude and reasons why you give. Do you give because you want to help or serve others or just because you want more ?
• Giving is not just about money, but also your time, your smile, your love,….

vmware how to install windows on scsi disk(disk not found)

You can install windows on vmware image using scsi disk. But XP will tell you that they can’t find any HD.

For this you have to include scsi driver  as floppy disk during installation : F6 -> specify driver -> A: -> use scsi driver -> continue

GSL – GNU statistics library

If you need to do some calculation (like statistics, math, ….) check out the GSL library.

It has lots of method already written like standard derivation, correlation, mean, monte carlo analysis etc…

I have connected this library (which is written in C) to ruby.

steps:

• download and install GSL (configure -> make -> make clean -> make install => see readme)
• for ruby:  gem install gsl  (check ruby-gsl project for examples)

HSQLDB – some tips

I have been working these days with Spring3 and as DB I have used HSQLDB.

Types of catalog data

• mem: stored entirely in RAM – without any persistence beyond the JVM process’s life
• file: stored in filesystem files
• res: stored in a Java resource, such as a Jar and always read-only

so the URL in java or spring context would looks like this:

"jdbc:hsqldb:file:testdb"
"jdbc:hsqldb:file:/opt/db/testdb"
"jdbc:hsqldb:mem:mymemdb"
"jdbc:hsqldb:res:org.my.path.resdb"

Turning on HSQLDB GUI in eclipse

in eclipse find the hsqldb.jar (usually lib folder) -> do right click and select “run as java” -> from the list select “DatabaseManagerSwing”

Get rid of “The database is already in use by another process”

For this error I have heard that you should use “shutdown=true” syntax in URL. So this would look like :

"jdbc:hsqldb:file:testdb;shutdown=true"  everything put in one single line (doc)

Tieto, tieto where are you going

Jako byvaly zamestnanec Tieta jsem se musel pousmat nad touhle fotkou

Tieto kam kracis ? Jsou ty mrize potrebne, aby jste zamezili lidem odchazet z firmy  :) ? Stavas se aliasem pro vezeni ?

Kdyz jsem te mel za zamestnavatele tak nas bylo kolem 20-40 lidi (v te dobe TietoEnator potazmo Sykora) velmi prijemna firma, musim priznat jako zelenac jsem pracoval (dovolim si rict) s elitou v programovani v dane dobe a lokalite. Odesel jsem kdyz Tieto prerostlo v 700-steho obra, ktery poziral nove zamestnance po desitkach denne.

Me pocity asi byly nasledne –  z firmy kde panoval kamradsky duch se stal bobtnajici monstrum procesu, narizeni a ruznych direktiv. Slo to jinak ?  (google, facebook jsou toho dukazem ze ano ;(

How to boot MBP without working DVDRom

I don’t use my DVDRom at all. After couple years I have found out that it is not working at all (of course it was jusst in situation where I needed).

I was in situation where I had to boot install DVD to repair my HD but how to do it when your DVDRom is not working? Here are few list what I have tried:

• clean your DVDRom – yes it helps, probably there is just dust, but I hadn’t have my cleaning set around me
• use “Remote install Mac OSX” – this tool works only for MacBook Air and Mac mini. MacBook Pro will not be able to boot using this tool, why ?  (Apple what’s wrong with you)
• boot from external HD – should be possible, but my external HD died
• tried to use external DVDRom and connect it through USB – yes it is working

So good news is that Apple has not forbidden external dvdrom. This is the way I am using now to boot my MBP. I really would like to know why they prohibited to boot from network using “remote install mac osx”. Apple don’t be crappy !
