how to join-split media files

Posted in Linux, windows with tags , , , on October 23, 2009 by majecek

I needed to join several flac files.

For this purpose I found shntool – very useful tool.  If you add flac library then everything works as expected.

steps:

  1. add shntool to windows folder
  2. add flac exe also to windows folder
  3. go to folder where you have flac files

joining flac files

shntool join -o flac *.flac

installing mac os x client in fusion

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on October 6, 2009 by majecek

Apple forbid to install mac os x “client” to install to any virtualization software. You can install only max os x server version.

To install it you need to pretend that “client”  is “server” :)

  1. create iso
  2. mount it and create file which pretend that client is “server”
  3. touch “/Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Library/CoreServices/ServerVersion.plist”
  4. install
  5. it will reboot machine and tries to start from already installed instance – but you will get error that it is not “server” version
  6. you have to boot again and start installation from iso
  7. after 2 “yes” clicks you can run terminal from utilities from top menu and run command
  8. touch “/Volumes/Macintosh HD/System/Library/CoreServices/ServerVersion.plist”
  9. reboot
  10. you are done

Of course this is breaking apple/vmware linceses.

finding latitude and longitude to add them in picture meta data

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on September 18, 2009 by majecek

My Nikon D70 has not GPS built in. It is very good to add this info as picasa and flickr will automatically show where the picture was taken.

I have found software called GPSPhotoLinker which will add this info to the picture. If you use some GPS software (I know that IGO can save the GPS route) and then you can just import it to this application. Of course it is good if your camera date/time is in sync with your GPS route.

It allows you to add latitude and longitude manually, but problem I have been facing was how to retrieve this info.  I was not able to get it from google maps. I have found this site where you can point to place on the map and it will show you LAT & LOG.

mac mini power adapter 110V-120V in Europe

Posted in Apple & Mac, Mac with tags , , , , on September 14, 2009 by majecek

Just bought mac mini and the power adapter says clearly “Input 110V – 120V “.  I bought it in USA but it would be very strange that apple adapters would not support dual voltage.

I have used converter, anyway after some reading on apple support page I have found that you can use the same power adapter in EU in 220V or even 240V (UK).  Then only thing you need is just plug converter from USA plug (3 pin plug) to EU plug (2 pin EU style).

To find out more check this discussion.

juniper VPN with Snow Leopard

Posted in Apple & Mac, Mac, java with tags , , , , on September 7, 2009 by majecek

If you are using Juniper VPN on Snow Leopard you will encounter problems. Basically you will not be able to install it.

Apple has messed up permissions and move some folders.

To making Juniper VPN work again you need to follow this steps:

  1. Install stand alone Juniper VPN version 6.0.0 (Google NetworkConnect.dmg  or just directly download it from here)
  2. run this sudo commands in terminal
  3. sudo chmod 755 /usr/local/juniper/nc/6.0.0
  4. sudo mkdir ‘/Applications/Network Connect.app/Contents/Frameworks’
  5. Log to your companies remote VPN site. (This usually upgrade your VPN to newer version. My VPN was upgraded to 6.4.0. This number is important !! You can find it if you go /usr/local/juniper/nc/ check what directory was created there)
  6. Run again sudo commands to repair the permissions again, otherwise you will get some error that you can’t connect
  7. sudo chmod 755 /usr/local/juniper/nc/6.4.0
  8. I have run also the second command, but I guess you don’t have to run it.

That’s all :)
